HOUSTON, TX

annunciation orthodox school

Designed in a Mediterranean style, this project embraces the sense of cultural pride and confidence important to the growth of today's students.  At three stories and 65,000 square feet, the new middle school houses state of the art classrooms, administrative offices, and a 9,000 square foot library.

The project also included the complete renovation of the adjacent lower school and surrounding grounds.  The resulting elegant, seamless campus has inspired overwhelming pride in the school community and is becoming a well-loved part of the Museum district neighbourhood.

The lobby's three-story atrium and granite entry typify the level of finish put into the entire structure.  The cloister running alongside the building helps to reduce the project’s scale, connect the campus, and protect students from the weather. The library's two stories are connected by an elegantly curved open stairway and balustrade, capped with a Byzantine copula.

The project unifies the architecture of the neighbouring Greek Orthodox Cathedral without imposing upon the residential surroundings.  Yet, with everything, this project features, down to its high level of finishing detail.  Economy comes from good, efficient design and not cutting corners.
